Fourth Year of College

Fall 2014

Classes: Studio 5-1 & Environmental Systems I

Studio: We began a year-long research, master planning, and design project. In this term we analyzed center city Philadelphia, and in specific looked at north and south broad street. My main analysis was looking at the ages of people in Philadelphia. We took this information into consideration as we master planned our site in the winter term.

Systems: We focused on mechanical systems. At the end of the term we had to design a mehanical system for a created building of our choosing. My group used a fishing lodge in Alaska accounting for the harsh weather conditions.

Winter 2015

Classes: Studio 5-2 & Environmental Systems II

Studio: We analyzed our research and began to create a master plan for south Broad Street between Bainbridge Street and Washington Avenue. Our scheme focused on the continuation of the avenue of the arts and we sought to do this through the creation of four unique performance zones.

Systems: We focused on plumbing systems.

Spring 2015
Classes: Studio 5-3, Environmental Systems III, & Theories of Architecture III

Studio: This term was the culmination of our year-long design project. In this term we focused on our indivicual designs. My site had two large buildings that visually framed our site from the park looking north towards city hall. My buildings had a variety of retail on the first floor, recreational center on the second floor, and residential above. My goal was to get people on the street to visually interact with those working out in an effort to encourage those on the street to participate in physical exercise.

Systems: We focused on electrical and lighting systems.

Theories: The class focused on architectural theory from 1900-2005. For my research project I studied Eero Saarinen's theory and design.

Summer 2015

Classes: Photography 110 & Real Estate Development

Photography: We focused on photography techniques like positive/negative, volume/scale, organic/geometric, as well as people and their environment. We focused on only using black and white images.

Real Estate: This class looked at professional real estate techniques. For a group project, we were required to design a building and put together a cost analysis of the property.
